When to Call a Plumber vs. DIY
Which plumbing problems are reasonable to handle yourself and which need a licensed professional.
Often DIY-friendly
Replacing a showerhead or faucet aerator, clearing a simple clog with a plunger, and replacing a toilet flapper are tasks many homeowners handle themselves.
Call a professional
Call a plumber for no hot water, recurring clogs in several drains, sewer odors, low water pressure throughout the house, signs of a slab leak (warm spots on floors, a running water meter with everything off), or any gas line work.
In an emergency
If water is leaking, turn off the main water shutoff first. Then call for help. Knowing where the shutoff is before you need it is one of the most useful things a homeowner can do.
